What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)?

DBT is a structured form of therapy developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, originally created to treat individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder. It combines acceptance and change techniques to help people manage intense emotions and unhealthy behaviors.

This type of therapy is built on four core components: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Who Can Benefit From DBT?

While DBT was initially developed for individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder, it has proven effective for a wide range of mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, substance use disorders, and eating disorders.

This makes DBT an ideal addition to our services, allow Family Guidance Center to support a diverse population of clients.
